Clan mXm was founded on January 1st, 2004  under the name “Maine X-Men.” The clan was formed by a gamer known as Juggernaut, or just JUGGY, with the name derived from a his home state of Maine and more obviously an X-Men theme. Specifically, JUGGY enjoyed the creative image of the “m”s looking like fists around the “X.” Formed specifically for the game, SOCOM II: US Navy SEALs, the clan started small amongst local friends in Maine. As time went on things would change drastically. Making use of the Playstation forums, mXm grew in size and expanded beyond the borders of Maine into states from all across the United States. As a result of becoming a nationwide clan, the “e” in Maine was dropped from the clan name, rebranding the clan as the “Main X-Men” and the new members were lining up.

It didn’t take long for members to contribute to the clan, and soon a free clan website was up along with forums to keep the social interaction of the clan at it’s maximum. A group of members were acquired via a merge with OmniTek [.:.] Clan which also marked the moment we gained our first Canadian member; making the clan international! But it also didn’t take long for the clan to form rivals amongst the Playstation forums and as a result of one such rivalry and some adult oriented forums on the website, the site was shut down in August 2004. The clan officers promptly met to discuss the situation and the next major landmark decision was made resulting in the first official website of mXm being formed: www.mXmbers.com

The next year would build the clan up tremendously. The would reach over 200 members, many of them active. The clan would grow into such size that multiple rosters were organized. mXm even became active on competitive gaming circuits such as the original Gamebattles and Urgent Fury tournament. The clan even took up a sponsorship/ affiliation with a small, independent company known as SOCOMCONTROL who specialized in custom modifications to PS2 controllers specifically for SOCOM gaming. But no story is complete with some obstacles that would have to be overcome..

Those obstacles would come in the loss of a leader, and a split amongst friends. In February 2005, the founder and original mXmber Juggernaut left mXm to pursue a career with a fellow clan known as the Sea Snipers (SS). mXm had always been close with [SS] before they had reached such notoriety, but the loss of Juggernaut to them was still a painful blow. With the loss of the original leader, the clan’s executive officer (XO) and second in command was promoted to take the reigns. However, this was not without controversy amongst a few clan officers and members. A few tense days passed and the XO was unable to reached, during which time the second party attempted to take control of clan. A few members, including a young clan officer: SOCOM Unit 1, bargained for a little more time until finally the XO and now CO (commanding officer) would make his reappearance and return structure to the clan.

With the reappearance of the former XO and now clan leader, the parties whom were trying to take control of the clan, including clan officers, were forced to back off and work in secrecy to organize plans of a mutiny to overthrow the newly promoted leader and lead the clan in the direction the saw as being in it’s best interest. However this plan would be discovered by SOCOM Unit 1 (SU1) whom was the lead forum/web admin and loyal to BalzOnYer4Head via a recorded private message system that was once a feature on the forums, although rarely checked. SU1 would stumble upon a single private message between conspirators that would change everything. Before going public with the elaborate scheme that had been discovered, SU1 first confronted the leader of the anti-Balz party, and tried to figure out what was happening. After a plea to keep quiet with everything that had been discovered, and an assurance that it was for the best he was sent on his way with a difficult choice to make.

Being loyal to the new leader, SOCOM Unit 1 went ahead with notifying him as well as another clan officer dubbed the “First Lady,” DevilzKandi, with his discovery and the decision was made to remove the conspirators from the clan. This was not a clean nor civil process with emotions on high and it resulted in the clan being split clear down the middle, with the second party leaving and taking with them their friends and supporters. It was a heavy blow to the clan as many of our key personalities were lost and everyone was upset regardless of what side they supported. Out of the flames and rubble of the split emerged two clans, what was left of mXm, and a new clan known as “Frank & Beans” [F&B]

What was left of mXm tried to pick up the pieces, but with the loss of so many friends and the scar of the [F&B] split, it was no easy task. Younger members moved away to college, older members became busy with their day to day jobs and families, the clan forums became deserted and visitors were few and far between. To make things that much worse, two of our members we’re displaced by Hurricane Katrina. The remaining mXmbers, as well as other friends and even a few former clan members banded together to create a relief package, staying to true to the family aspect of the clan. However, the loss of them from an active role on the forums and in game was very significant. It only got harder to stay united in November 2006 with the release of the Playstation 3 and effectively the death of SOCOM II. However, regardless of the erie quiet that had taken hold of the clan and it’s web presence, the website was always renewed and kept open as a becon of hope that thing’s would get better. That mXm was not dead. That mXm would live on.

The saving grace the clan had hoped for would come two years later in the form of SOCOM: Confrontation. In October 2008 Confrontation was released and mXm was ready. Finally the forums once again had some activity, and more importantly, friends were gaming together. Old “legacy” members were contacted to notify them of the return of the clan, and new members were recruited into the family as well. All the time keeping true to the original values of the clan being about fun, friends, and family. Recruiting was never based on skill alone, but more importantly personality; all member’s bringing something special and unique to the clan.

Attempts to re-establish a friendship between mXm and F&B have met with no success. Individual mXmbers have been invited into their community, while others such as BalzOnYer4Head and SOCOM Unit 1 remain blacklisted. Multiple attempts have been made to make amends, leave the past behind, become allies, and so on over the years. Most met with no reply, some with cruel responses. Occasionally another email will be sent, and some friendships between individuals have been restored, but overall efforts to reestablish communications have ceased.

Time would go on and the clan would remain small but active on various games; SOCOM: Confontation, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Medal of Honor, Black Ops, and so on. And today we are proud to have a core group of individuals we are proud to clan mXmbers. Whatever the future has in store for the clan, we stand ready to face any challenges and willing to welcome in any new friends who arrive at our door. We are a society of gamers, a family of friends, brought together by a clan. We are mXm.
